Aptly nicknamed the "Mile-High City," Denver sits at an altitude of 1,600 m (5,280 ft) above sea level, located right where the Great Plains give way to the Rocky Mountains.
Step out of the city life by going to Photography Tours and Fishing Charters & Tours. Get out of town with these interesting Denver side-trips: Rocky Mountain National Park (Many Parks Curve Overlook & Trail Ridge Road), Flatirons (in Boulder) and Summit Lake Park (in Idaho Springs). There's still lots to do: explore the landscape on two wheels at Jeffco Open Space Parks, engage your brain at Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center, contemplate the long history of Dinosaur Ridge, and explore by horseback at Hidden Mesa Open Space & Trail.

Visiting Black Creek Preserve and Bronx Zoo will get you outdoors. Visit 9/11 Memorial and New York City Hall for their historical value.
