Step off the beaten path and head to Point Au Roches State Park and Country Dreams Farm. Step out of the city life by going to Bluff Point Golf Resort and Plattsburgh City Beach. Explore Plattsburgh's surroundings by going to Mace Chasm Farm (in Keeseville) and Wilder Homestead (in Malone).

Lake Placid — 5 nights

Step off the beaten path and head to Mount Jo and John Brown Farm State Historic Site. Get in touch with nature at Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Wilmington Town Beach. Change things up with these side-trips from Lake Placid: Coney Mountain Trail (in Tupper Lake), Long Lake (Buttermilk Falls & John Dillon Park) and Crown Point State Historic Site (in Crown Point).

Getting from Plattsburgh to Lake Placid by car takes about 1.5 hours. Traveling from Plattsburgh in July, Lake Placid is little chillier at night with lows of 12°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Sun) so you can drive to Lake George.

Lake George — 8 nights

Queen of the American Lakes

Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Star Trek Original Series Set Tour and Shelving Rock Falls. Visiting Million Dollar Beach and Gooney Golf will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Lake George side-trips: North River (Garnet Hill Lodge & Garnet Mine Tours), Bolton Landing (Amy's Park & Tongue Mountain Range Trails) and Ticonderoga (The Falls of Carillon, Mt. Defiance, &more). There's still lots to do: examine the collection at House of Frankenstein Wax Museum, relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour, tour the pleasant surroundings at Schroon Lake Town Beach, and explore the landscape on two wheels at Warren County Bikeway.

You can drive from Lake Placid to Lake George in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Lake Placid in July: high temperatures in Lake George hover around 32°C and lows are around 18°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Mon) early enough to drive to Old Forge.

Old Forge — 4 nights

Take a break from the city and head to McCauley Mountain and Castle Rock Trail. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Enchanted Forest Water Safari and Bald Mountain. Explore Old Forge's surroundings by going to Long Lake (Lake Lila Primitive Area & Hoss's Country Corner) and Blue Mountain Lake (Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake & Blue Mountain).

You can drive from Lake George to Old Forge in 2 hours. Another option is to drive. August in Old Forge sees daily highs of 30°C and lows of 17°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Fri) to allow time to drive back home.
