Carmel-by-the-Sea, often simply called Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. Pacific Grove Oceanview Boulevard and Ocean Avenue are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Visiting Asilomar State Beach and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park will get you outdoors. Explore Carmel's surroundings by going to Big Sur (Pfeiffer State Beach & McWay Falls). Spend the 28th (Fri) observing fascinating marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour. There's still lots to do: immerse yourself in nature at Point Lobos, kick back and relax at Carmel River State Beach, take in the views from Bixby Bridge, and explore the activities along Monterey Bay.

When you arrive in tiny San Simeon, which lies halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, you can see why William Randolph Hearst chose this coastal locale for his famous hilltop castle.
On the 1st (Mon), explore the historical opulence of Hearst Castle, then take a memorable drive along Moonstone Beach Dr, and then kick back and relax at Moonstone Beach. Here are some ideas for day two: visit a coastal fixture at Piedras Blancas Light Station, look for all kinds of wild species at Elephant Seal Rookery, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Piedras Blancas.
