Detroit — 21 nights

The Motor City

Founded in 1701 by a French explorer and adventurer, Detroit exerted a profound impact on the world for most of the 20th century.
Change things up with these side-trips from Detroit: Saginaw Veterans Memorial Plaza (in Saginaw), Sandusky (Kalahari Waterparks & Cedar Point) and Frankenmuth (Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, Boat Tours & Water Sports, &more). There's lots more to do: admire the masterpieces at Detroit Institute of Arts, take in the waterfront at Detroit RiverFront, see the interesting displays at National Museum of the Great Lakes, and contemplate the long history of Motown Museum.

To find photos, other places to visit, where to stay, and more tourist information, refer to the Detroit trip itinerary planner.

If you are flying in from Germany, the closest major aiports are Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, Bishop International Airport, Oakland County International Airport and St Clair County International Airport. In August, plan for daily highs up to 32°C, and evening lows to 20°C.
