Red Rose City

The heart of Pennsylvania's famous "Dutch Country," Lancaster is one of the nation's oldest inland cities, founded in 1730.
Explore Lancaster's surroundings by going to Wolf Sanctuary of PA (in Lititz), Refreshing Mountain (in Stevens) and Mount Hope Estate & Winery, home of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire (in Manheim). Plan for a day of cool, family-friendly fun on the 19th (Wed) at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at The Amish Farm and House, experience rural life at Lapp Valley Farm, get in on the family fun at Dutch Wonderland, and take an in-depth tour of Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

To see more things to do, reviews, other places to visit, and tourist information, refer to the Lancaster road trip planning tool.

New York City to Lancaster is an approximately 3-hour car ride. You can also take a train; or take a bus. Expect slightly colder evenings in Lancaster when traveling from New York City in August, with lows around 62°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 1st (Tue) early enough to go by car back home.
