The capital of the United States, the District of Columbia contains the lion's share of the country's most treasured monuments, memorials, and public museums.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Korean War Veterans Memorial and Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Get out of town with these interesting Washington DC side-trips: National Museum of the Marine Corps (in Triangle) and Gettysburg National Military Park (in Gettysburg).
