Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.

Step off the beaten path and head to Wells Beach and Ocean Ave. Get some cultural insight at Marginal Way Walkway and Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Portland: Wells (Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge & Drakes Island Beach), Bailey Island (Giant's Stairs Trail & Bailey Island Bridge) and Maine Wildlife Park (in Gray).
