Windy City

Step out of the city life by going to Lakefront Trail and Lake Michigan. Step off the beaten path and head to Starved Rock State Park and Buckingham Fountain. Venture out of the city with trips to Lake Geneva (Geneva Lake Shore Path & Geneva Lake) and Matthiessen State Park (in Utica). There's still lots to do: explore the world behind art at The Art Institute of Chicago, walk around Milton Lee Olive Park, try to win big at Horseshoe Hammond, and don't miss a visit to Millennium Park.

Zenith City of the Unsalted Seas

Visiting Gooseberry Falls State Park and Split Rock Lighthouse State Park will get you outdoors. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Minnesota's North Shore Scenic Drive and Copper Falls State Park. Explore Duluth's surroundings by going to Split Rock Lighthouse (in Two Harbors) and Boat Tours & Water Sports (in Bayfield). There's lots more to do: kick back and relax at Park Point, take in the views from Aerial Lift Bridge, stroll around Leif Erikson Park, and make a trip to Canal Park.

Getting from Chicago to Duluth by flight takes about 3 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In September, Duluth is a bit cooler than Chicago - with highs of 23°C and lows of 14°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Thu) early enough to drive to Ely.
