Augusta — 23 nights

Augusta is the capital of the U.S. state of Maine and the county seat of Kennebec County. The city's population was 19,136 at the 2010 census, making it the third-smallest state capital (after Montpelier, Vermont and Pierre, South Dakota) and the ninth-largest city in Maine. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Augusta: Kefauver Studio & Gallery (in Damariscotta), Skipjack Nautical Wares & Marine Art Gallery (in Portsmouth) and Boothbay Harbor (Food Tours, Boothbay Region Land Trust, &more). And it doesn't end there: take an in-depth tour of Maine State Museum, enjoy the sea views from Rockland Breakwater Light, steep yourself in history at Fort Western, and get a sense of history and politics at State Capitol.
