Eschew the tourist crowds and head to General Sherman Tree and Giant Forest. Visit Manzanar National Historic Site and Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery for their historical value. Take a break from Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park with a short trip to Museum of Western Film History in Lone Pine, about 6 hours away.
