Nicknamed the "Entertainment Capital of the World," Las Vegas sits in the middle of a desert in the southern section of Nevada.
For shopping fun, head to The Strip or The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian. Get in touch with nature at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and Lake Mead National Recreation Area. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Las Vegas: Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum (in Boulder City), Valley of Fire State Park (in Overton) and Willow Beach (in Fort Mohave). There's much more to do: see the interesting displays at The Mob Museum, enjoy breathtaking views from Eiffel Tower Viewing Deck, try to win big at New York New York Casino, and have fun at The Little Vegas Chapel.

You can fly from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in 4 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and flight. Traveling from Los Angeles in August, expect Las Vegas to be a bit warmer, temps between 45°C and 29°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 16th (Fri) early enough to travel to New Orleans.

Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Start off your visit on the 17th (Sat): identify plant and animal life at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve and then look for gifts at Louisiana Music Factory. On your second day here, wander the streets of Garden District, then admire the striking features of St. Louis Cathedral, and then take a memorable tour with Tours.

Escape the urban bustle at Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge and Ocean Grove Beach. There's still lots to do: take a stroll through Times Square, see the interesting displays at 9/11 Memorial, enjoy breathtaking views from Empire State Building, and shop like a local with Fifth Avenue.

The time zone changes from Central Standard Time to Eastern Standard Time, which is usually a 1 hour difference.
