Writer Pearl Buck once called New York City “a place apart,” and this giant urban center remains unlike any other in the world.
You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and American Museum of Natural History. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at St. Patrick's Cathedral and Statue of Liberty National Monument. Go for a jaunt from New York City to Bronx to see Bronx Zoo about 46 minutes away. On the 2nd (Fri), plan a day focused around Central Park. There's much more to do: examine the collection at New York Public Library, make a trip to Rockefeller Center, stroll through Bryant Park, and get great views at Top of the Rock Observation Deck.

The capital of the United States, the District of Columbia contains the lion's share of the country's most treasured monuments, memorials, and public museums.
Tomb of the Unknowns and Arlington National Cemetery will appeal to history buffs. Get a sense of the local culture at Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. There's much more to do: admire the masterpieces at National Gallery of Art, appreciate the history behind Washington Monument, meet the residents at National Zoological Park, and contemplate the waterfront views at Tidal Basin.
