Writer Pearl Buck once called New York City “a place apart,” and this giant urban center remains unlike any other in the world.

Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Blue Ridge Estate Vineyard & Winery and Food Tours. Get out of town with these interesting New York City side-trips: Columcille Megalith Park (in Bangor), TWA Flight 800 International Memorial (in Shirley) and Fire Island National Seashore (in Patchogue). There's much more to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Patrick's Cathedral, steep yourself in history at William Floyd Estate, explore and take pictures at Madison Square Garden, and do a tasting at Franklin Hill Vineyards.
