Caguas, founded in 1775, is a city and municipality of Puerto Rico (U.S.) located in the Central Mountain Range of Puerto Rico, south of San Juan and Trujillo Alto, west of Gurabo and San Lorenzo, east of Aguas Buenas, Cidra, and Cayey.Caguas is located 20mi (twenty minutes to an hour by car) from San Juan and 40mi (an hour and a half by car; it may take longer because of mountainous area in between the two cities) from Ponce. Kick off your visit on the 1st (Mon): ride a horse along Hacienda Madrigal. On your second day here, walk around La Marquesa Forest Park and then pause for some serene contemplation at Parroquia Santo Cristo de la Salud.

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
