Visit 9/11 Memorial and St. Patrick's Cathedral for their historical value. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Cupsogue Beach County Park and Ponquogue Beach. You'll find plenty of places to visit near New York City: Pocono Environmental Education Center (in Dingmans Ferry), William Floyd Estate (in Mastic Beach) and Bushkill Falls (in Bushkill).
