Visit Venice Beach and Boardwalk and Santa Monica State Beach for some beach relaxation. Get some cultural insight at The Getty Center and Griffith Observatory. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Los Angeles: Santa Monica (Santa Monica Mountains, Third Street Promenade, & more) and Oak Canyon Nature Center (in Anaheim). There's lots more to do: browse the exhibits of La Brea Tar Pits and Museum, look for all kinds of wild species at Ballona Wetlands, appreciate the extensive heritage of El Pueblo de Los Angeles, and wander the streets of Abbot Kinney Boulevard.

Expect much colder evenings in Yosemite National Park when traveling from Los Angeles in August, with lows around 7°C.
