Anchorage — 24 nights

Home to nearly half of Alaska's population, the port city of Anchorage covers a staggering area of over 4,900 sq km (1,900 sq mi) surrounded by mountains.
Visit Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and Eklutna Village Historic Park for their historical value. Escape the urban bustle at Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and Chugach State Park. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Anchorage: Boat Tours & Water Sports (in Whittier), Palmer (Independence Mine State Historical Park, Musk Ox Farm, &more) and Bearpaw River Brewing Company (in Wasilla). Spend the 30th (Tue) behind the viewfinder with an inspiring photography tour. Spend the 7th (Tue) exploring nature at McHugh Creek Day Use Area. There's much more to do: steep yourself in history at Alaska Native Heritage Center, learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Alaska Zoo, explore the striking landscape at Portage Glacier, and take a peaceful walk through Chugach National Forest.
