Augusta

— 28 nights
Augusta–Richmond County is a consolidated city-county on the central eastern border of the U.S. state of Georgia, and located on the Savannah River, at the head of its navigable portion. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Dreher Island State Park and Musgrove Mill State Historic. Get in touch with nature at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park and Hartwell Dam. Change things up with these side-trips from Augusta: Cayce (Timmerman Trail & Congaree Creek Heritage Preserve), Athens (Terrapin Beer Company & Sandy Creek Nature Center) and St. John's Episcopal Church (in Columbia). And it doesn't end there: stroll the grounds of Magnolia Cemetery, tee off at Cateechee Golf Club, admire the natural beauty at Meadow Garden, and grab your bike and head to Hamilton Branch State Park.

To find other places to visit, where to stay, ratings, and more tourist information, refer to the Augusta trip planner.

In May, plan for daily highs up to 84°F, and evening lows to 64°F.
