Despite its laid-back college vibe, Austin is an influential center for politics, technology, film, and music.
The Blanton Museum of Art and South Congress Avenue are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Head to Central Market and Copper Shade Tree Galleryfor plenty of shopping. Take a break from Austin with a short trip to Whistling Duck Winery in Weimar, about 1h 40 min away. And it doesn't end there: wander the streets of 6th Street, get a taste of local nightlife at Rainey Street, have some family-friendly fun at The Escape Game Austin, and take in the exciting artwork at Harry Ransom Center.

The city of Fredericksburg was settled by German immigrants in the mid-19th century, and has managed to retain its distinctly German charm.
Head to Agave Gallery Fine Art and Kerr Arts & Cultural Center Inc.for plenty of shopping. Do some cultural sightseeing at National Museum of the Pacific War and Kerrville Hills Winery. Get out of town with these interesting Fredericksburg side-trips: Hill Country Distillers (in Comfort) and Vintage 205 (in Johnson City). There's still lots to do: learn about winemaking at Grape Creek Vineyards on Main, take in nature's colorful creations at Fischer & Wieser's Das Peach Haus, examine the collection at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site, and take an in-depth tour of Admiral Nimitz State Historic Site.
