Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Head to Royal Street and Frenchmen Streetfor plenty of shopping. Garden District and French Quarter will appeal to history buffs. Get out of town with these interesting New Orleans side-trips: Whitney Plantation (in Wallace), Nature & Wildlife Tours (in Slidell) and Laura Plantation: Louisiana's Creole Heritage Site (in Vacherie). Spend the 19th (Wed) exploring nature at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. And it doesn't end there: pause for some serene contemplation at St. Louis Cathedral, see the interesting displays at Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, meet the residents at Audubon Zoo, and learn about all things military at The National WWII Museum.

Lihue to New Orleans is an approximately 13-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 4 hours traveling from Lihue to New Orleans. Traveling from Lihue in June, New Orleans is a bit warmer at night with lows of 83°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 26th (Wed) so you can travel to Folsom.
