Avalon

— 2 nights
Avalon is the only incorporated city on Santa Catalina Island of the California Channel Islands, and the southernmost city in Los Angeles County. Get in touch with nature at Scuba & Snorkeling and Nature Center at Avalon Canyon. There's much more to do: explore the world behind art at Catalina Island Museum, identify plant and animal life at Catalina Island Conservancy, don't miss a visit to Airport in the Sky, and pause for some photo ops at Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden.

To find maps, where to stay, reviews, and more tourist information, you can read our Avalon day trip planner.

San Diego to Avalon is an approximately 4.5-hour combination of train, taxi, and ferry. You can also do a combination of bus and ferry; or do a combination of flight and ferry. Traveling from San Diego in June, plan for slightly colder nights in Avalon, with lows around 58°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 20th (Sun) so you can travel back home.
