Franklin — 1 night

More than just a charming Southern city, Franklin continues to receive accolades for its downtown Main Street district that has brings up words like "romantic," "small town," and "best place to visit" from numerous media sources.
On the 29th (Fri), take in the history at Lotz House Museum, then steep yourself in history at Carnton, and then shop like a local with David Arms.

Nashville to Franklin is an approximately half hour car ride. You can also take a bus. In July, daytime highs in Franklin are 90°F, while nighttime lows are 70°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 30th (Sat) early enough to catch the flight to Portland.

Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
Start off your visit on the 30th (Sat): stroll through Ogunquit Beach and then appreciate the extensive heritage of Marginal Way Walkway. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: sample some tasty brews at a beer tour and tasting, stop by Lisa-Marie's Made in Maine, and then indulge your thirst for a good beer at Allagash Brewing Company.
