Furniture City

The second largest city in Michigan and a hub of furniture manufacturing, Grand Rapids bears the nickname "Furniture City." However, the destination's original name came from the rapids of the Grand River that once ran through the downtown area.
Your day by day itinerary now includes Fulton Street Farmers Market. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Gerald R. Ford Museum and Gilmore Car Museum. Get out of town with these interesting Grand Rapids side-trips: Lansing (9-11-2001 Remembrance Memorial & Horrocks Farm Market), Kalamazoo Valley Museum (in Kalamazoo) and Air Zoo (in Portage). There's still lots to do: see the sky in a new way at Grand Rapids Public Museum, take in nature's colorful creations at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, pause for some serene contemplation at Cathedral of Saint Andrew, and admire the landmark architecture of Meyer May House.

For photos, other places to visit, traveler tips, and more tourist information, read Grand Rapids day trip planning tool.

Expect a daytime high around 42°F in March, and nighttime lows around 24°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
