Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Great Smoky Mountains National Park contains some of the highest mountains east of the Mississippi River, but it's the ease of access that makes this national park the United States' most visited.
Attractions like Carolina Outfitters and Elkmont Ghost Town make great kid-friendly stops. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Chimney Tops Trail and Mount LeConte. Change things up with a short trip to River Rafting & Tubing in Hartford (about 52 minutes away). There's more to do: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Clingmans Dome and look for all kinds of wild species at Roaring Fork.

For other places to visit, where to stay, ratings, and more tourist information, you can read our Great Smoky Mountains National Park trip itinerary site .

Expect a daytime high around 87°F in August, and nighttime lows around 68°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 19th (Sun) so you can travel back home.
