Nestled in the heart of the valley formed by the Shenandoah River, Luray draws visitors with a vast underground cavern system adorned with stalactites, stalagmites, and mirrored pools.
Step out of the city life by going to Skyline Drive and Luray Caverns. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at R.H. Ballard Shop & Gallery and Moving Meadows Farm. Change things up with these side-trips from Luray: Barrel Oak Winery (in Delaplane) and James Madison's Montpelier (in Montpelier Station). There's still lots to do: sample the fine beverages at Copper Fox Distillery, scramble along the landscape with a canyoning and rapelling tour, do a tasting at River Hill Wine & Spirits, and examine the collection at Cooter's in Luray.

To see maps, where to stay, ratings, and more tourist information, go to the Luray day trip planning app .

Expect a daytime high around 54°F in March, and nighttime lows around 32°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Sun) so you can travel back home.
