Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Royal Street and Frenchmen Street. Step out of the city life by going to Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve and Kayaking & Canoeing. Step out of New Orleans with an excursion to Whitney Plantation in Wallace--about 52 minutes away. There's much more to do: get to know the fascinating history of Garden District, take in the spiritual surroundings of St. Louis Cathedral, sample the fine beverages at Old New Orleans Rum Distillery, and explore the world behind art at The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at NOMA.

In April, daytime highs in New Orleans are 71°F, while nighttime lows are 71°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Mon) early enough to travel back home.
