— 2 nights
Wilkes-Barre is a city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the county seat of Luzerne County. Explore Wilkes-Barre's surroundings by going to Ricketts Glen State Park (in Benton), Hickory Run State Park (in White Haven) and Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark (in Tannersville). There's still lots to do: try to win big at Mohegan Sun Pocono, take in the views from Market Street Bridge, take in the dramatic natural features at Seven Tubs Natural Area, and contemplate the long history of Asa Packer Mansion.

For where to stay, reviews, maps, and more tourist information, use the Wilkes-Barre holiday planner.

Staten Island to Wilkes-Barre is an approximately 2.5-hour car ride. You can also drive. Traveling from Staten Island in May, expect a bit cooler with lows of 50°F in Wilkes-Barre. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Sun) to allow enough time to travel back home.

Taking up the better part of northeastern Pennsylvania, the Pocono Mountains Region contains more than 6,200 sq km (2,400 sq mi) of rolling mountains, waterfalls, lakes, forests, and streams. A year-round vacation getaway, the region once attracted mostly honeymooners. Today, the Poconos draw adventure-seekers from around the globe, arriving in throngs to explore one of the southernmost ski areas in the United States. Famous for its pristine nature teeming with native wildlife, the region is a quick car ride from New England or New York. The Pocono Mountains do not encompass any major cities--the wilderness area dotted with small towns and natural attractions makes this one of the least polluted portions of the region.
