Amarillo — 29 nights

Yellow Rose of Texas

Known as "The Yellow Rose of Texas," Amarillo was once a series of ranches.
Get out of town with these interesting Amarillo side-trips: The Charles and Mary Ann Goodnight Ranch State Historical Site (in Goodnight), Lubbock (Buddy Holly Statue and West Texas Walk of Fame, The Buddy Holly Center, &more) and Armstrong County Museum (in Claude). There's still lots to do: wander the wide-open spaces of Cowgirls and Cowboys in the West, delve into the distant past at Palo Duro Canyon State Park, see the interesting displays at Bill's Backyard Classics, and get engrossed in the history at American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum.

To find reviews, where to stay, maps, and other tourist information, read our Amarillo visit planning app.

If you are flying in from Brazil, the closest major aiports are Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport, Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport and Cannon Air Force Base. In April, daily temperatures in Amarillo can reach 26°C, while at night they dip to 5°C.
