Divided into neighborhoods with distinct characters and cultural heritages, San Diego sits just north of the Mexican border and offers visitors a blend of tourist attractions, including a lively nightlife, diverse cuisine, and a thriving musical scene.
Get in touch with nature at La Jolla Cove and Cabrillo National Monument. Head to San Diego Fly Rides and Spanish Village Art Centerfor plenty of shopping. Step out of San Diego with an excursion to Lions, Tigers & Bears in Alpine--about 48 minutes away. There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at USS Midway Museum, take a tour of Maritime Museum of San Diego, enjoy the sand and surf at Mission Beach Park, and learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at San Diego Zoo.

Newark to San Diego is an approximately 7-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time to Pacific Standard Time, which is usually a -3 hour difference. Traveling from Newark in April, things will get a bit warmer in San Diego: highs are around 71°F and lows about 58°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Wed) so you can drive to Los Angeles.
