Juneau is an unusual state capital in many respects.

Skagway

The Municipality and Borough of Skagway is a first-class borough in Alaska on the Alaska Panhandle. Get in touch with nature at Zipline and Davidson Glacier. Skagway Museum and Archives and The Mascot Saloon are good opportunities to explore the local culture. The City and Borough of Sitka, formerly Novo-Arkhangelsk, or New Archangel under Russian rule, is a unified city-borough located on Baranof Island and the southern half of Chichagof Island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Pacific Ocean (part of the Alaska Panhandle), in the U.S. Get a sense of the local culture at Sitka National Historic Park/Totem Park and Russian Bishop's House. Escape the urban bustle at Alaska Raptor Center and Herring Cove Trail. There's lots more to do: identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas, examine the collection at Sheldon Jackson Museum, head outdoors with S.E. Getting from Skagway to Sitka by flight takes about 3 hours. Other options: do a combination of ferry and flight; or ride a ferry. Traveling from Skagway in November, expect Sitka to be a bit warmer, temps between 7°C and 2°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Sun) so you can travel to Ketchikan.
