The glaciers from which Glacier National Park takes its name mostly dissipated eons ago, but they left behind a scoured landscape of high and steep mountain peaks, sparkling lakes, lush alpine meadows, and thick forests.
Take a break from the city and head to Going-to-the-Sun Road and Highline Trail. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Lake McDonald and Grinnell Glacier. There's still lots to do: explore the striking landscape of Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, hike along Trail of the Cedars, contemplate the waterfront views at Two Medicine Lake, and admire the sheer force of Virginia Falls.

You can drive from West Yellowstone to Glacier National Park in 7.5 hours. Another option is to do a combination of shuttle, flight, and taxi. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from West Yellowstone in June: high temperatures in Glacier National Park hover around 75°F and lows are around 45°F.
