Carmel-by-the-Sea, often simply called Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Point Lobos State Reserve and Asilomar State Beach. Visiting Carmel City Beach/Carmel River Beach and Partington Cove will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Carmel side-trips: Moss Landing State Beach (in Moss Landing) and Pfeiffer State Beach (in Big Sur). There's still lots to do: appreciate the extensive heritage of Pacific Grove Oceanview Boulevard and look for gifts at The Cheese Shop.
