Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Take a break from the city and head to Hurricane Ridge and Mount Walker. Change things up with these side-trips from Seattle: Discover Nature (in Mount Rainier National Park), Angel of the Winds Arena (in Everett) and Brackett's Landing North (in Edmonds). Dedicate the 5th (Mon) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's still lots to do: take a stroll through Pike Place Market, tour the pleasant surroundings at Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, take in the exciting artwork at Chihuly Garden and Glass, and see the interesting displays at The Museum of Flight.

Aptly nicknamed the "Mile-High City," Denver sits at an altitude of 1,600 m (5,280 ft) above sea level, located right where the Great Plains give way to the Rocky Mountains.
Take a break from the city and head to Estes Park Guided Tours and Trail Ridge Road. Get out of town with these interesting Denver side-trips: Spas (in Estes Park), Annual Flower Trial Garden (in Fort Collins) and Pikes Peak - America's Mountain (in Cascade). There's lots more to do: walk around Garden of the Gods, get the adrenaline pumping with an extreme tour, trek along High Line Canal, and take in the awesome beauty at Mount Evans.
