Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Get out of town with these interesting Seattle side-trips: Olympic National Park (Hood Canal & Murhut Falls). Dedicate the 4th (Thu) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. And it doesn't end there: admire the masterpieces at Chihuly Garden and Glass, admire all the interesting features of Safeco Field, wander the streets of Pike Place Market, and see the interesting displays at The Museum of Flight.

Indianapolis to Seattle is an approximately 7-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus and train. A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Venture out of the city with trips to Cannon Beach (Ecola State Park & Haystack Rock), Multnomah Falls (in Bridal Veil) and Fort Clatsop National Memorial (in Astoria). Dedicate the 14th (Sun) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. And it doesn't end there: take in nature's colorful creations at Portland Japanese Garden, contemplate the long history of Pittock Mansion, sample some tasty brews at a beer tour and tasting, and stroll through Wildwood Trail.

A huge and vibrant city, Chicago is home to top-notch theaters, shops, museums, galleries, and restaurants.
Change things up with a short trip to Gary Southshore Railcats in Gary (about 48 minutes away). The adventure continues: explore the world behind art at The Art Institute of Chicago, meet the residents at Shedd Aquarium, get curious at Museum of Science and Industry, and stroll through Lincoln Park Zoo.

Venture out of the city with trips to Exotic Feline Rescue Center (in Centerpoint), Indiana University (in Bloomington) and Turkey Run State Park (in Marshall).
