Norwalk — 10 nights

Norwalk, is the sixth most populous city in the U.S. state of Connecticut. You'll get in some beach time at Compo Beach and Sasco Beach. Venture out of the city with trips to Southbury (Shepaug Eagle Observation Area & Southbury Dog Park), Danbury (Bear Mountain Reservation & Danbury Museum & Historical Society) and Bridgewater Chocolate Factory and Factory Store (in Brookfield). There's much more to do: stroll through Ansonia Nature & Recreation Center, identify plant and animal life at Audubon Center, trek along New Canaan Nature Center, and take in nature's colorful creations at Garden of Ideas.

Mexico to Norwalk is an approximately 5.5-hour combination of car and flight. You can also drive. Plan for somewhat warmer temperatures traveling from Mexico in January, with highs in Norwalk at 38°F and lows at 24°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 19th (Tue) so you can drive to Mystic.

Mystic — 11 nights

A historical leading seaport, Mystic has maintained a strong respect for the past.
Visit Hammonasset Beach State Park and Pleasure Beach for some beach relaxation. Get out of town with these interesting Mystic side-trips: Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge (in Westbrook), East Haddam (Gillette Castle State Park & Ray of Light Farm) and Madison (Meigs Point Nature Center & The Shoreline Greenway Trail). And it doesn't end there: steep yourself in history at Olde Mistick Village, get engrossed in the history at Mystic Seaport Museum, look for all kinds of wild species at Connecticut College Arboretum, and make a trip to Mystic & Shoreline Visitor Information Center.

Hartford is the capital of the U.S. state of Connecticut. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Hartford: Macricostas Preserve (in New Preston), The Lodge at Crandall Park (in Tolland) and Cassidy Hill Vineyard (in Coventry). You can drive from Mystic to Hartford in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of train and bus. In January, daily temperatures in Hartford can reach 36°F, while at night they dip to 21°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Tue) so you can drive back home.
