Writer Pearl Buck once called New York City “a place apart,” and this giant urban center remains unlike any other in the world.
Head to Fifth Avenue and Artists & Fleas at Chelsea Marketfor some retail therapy. Visiting Bronx Zoo and Speed Boats Tours will get you outdoors. Change things up with these side-trips from New York City: 8th Ave Jetty (in Asbury Park), Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge (in Oceanville) and Point Lookout Beach (in Point Lookout). There's still lots to do: go for a walk through Central Park, don't miss a visit to Times Square, identify plant and animal life at Hallett Nature Sanctuary, and examine the collection at New York Public Library.
