The capital of the United States, the District of Columbia contains the lion's share of the country's most treasured monuments, memorials, and public museums.Let the collections at National Air and Space Museum and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum capture your imagination. Head to Eastern Market and Madame Tussauds DCfor some retail therapy. Venture out of the city with trips to Gettysburg (Gettysburg National Military Park & Little Round Top), Weinberg Center for the Arts (in Frederick) and National Watch and Clock Museum (in Columbia). There's still lots to do: admire the masterpieces at National Gallery of Art, appreciate the history behind Vietnam Veterans Memorial, pause for some serene contemplation at Washington National Cathedral, and get a sense of history and politics at United States Capitol.
