Neu-Braunfels

Built upon the back of an older cotton-producing town called Gruene, New Braunfels pays tribute to its heritage by maintaining part of the historical town--its post office, general store, and dance hall among other buildings--inside the city limits.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near New Braunfels: Johnson City (Exotic Resort Zoo, Inc., Texcetera, &more), Hye (Garrison Brothers Distillery, Hye Meadow Winery, &more) and Stonewall (Sauer-Beckmann Farm, Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site, &more). There's lots more to do: stroll through Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, see a world frozen in time at Gruene Historic District, look for all kinds of wild species at Hamilton Pool Preserve, and examine the collection at Dick's Classic Garage.

The Alamo City

As the state’s second largest city, San Antonio embodies Texas’ rich cultural heritage while maintaining the Old West charm of an oil town.
Natural Bridge Caverns has been added to your itinerary. On the 25th (Sat), pause for some serene contemplation at San Fernando De Bexar Cathedral, steep yourself in history at Mission San Jose, and then Head underground at Natural Bridge Caverns. Keep things going the next day: take an in-depth tour of The Alamo, then take a stroll around Tower of the Americas, and then learn about all things military at National Museum of the Pacific War.

To see maps, photos, and more tourist information, you can read our San Antonio holiday planning tool.

You can drive from New Braunfels to San Antonio in an hour. Another option is to do a combination of taxi and bus.
