Sioux Falls — 9 nights

Sioux Falls is the largest city in the U.S. state of South Dakota. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Sioux Falls: Watertown (Bramble Park Zoo, Watertown Veterans Memorial, &more), Porter Sculpture Park (in Montrose) and Lake Vermillion Recreation Area (in Canistota). There's much more to do: walk around Falls Park, trek along Sioux Falls Bike Trails, stroll through SculptureWalk & Arc of Dreams Monument, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Joseph Cathedral.

Although Badlands National Park's name might not be the most inviting, its landscape of pinnacles, eroded buttes, spires, and an expansive, pristine mixed-grass prairie remain enticing.
Step out of Badlands National Park with an excursion to Hurley Butte Horseback Riding in Interior--about 40 minutes away. Spend the 14th (Sat) exploring nature at Badlands National Park. Next up on the itinerary: explore and take pictures at Loop Road, tour the pleasant surroundings at Castle Trail, look for all kinds of wild species at Roberts Prairie Dog Town, and appreciate the extensive heritage of Sage Creek Wilderness Area.
