Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Chihuly Garden and Glass and Seattle Art Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Seattle: Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum (in Everett), Tacoma (Tacoma Art Museum, Museum of Glass, &more) and Olympic National Park (Bunch Creek Falls & Hurricane Ridge). Dedicate the 6th (Sat) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's lots more to do: wander the streets of Pike Place Market, see the interesting displays at Museum of Pop Culture, get a taste of the local shopping with Pioneer Square, and get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Seattle Aquarium.

A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
