Home Of Mount Rushmore

Fewer than 400 people call Keystone home year-round, but the population explodes in summer when crowds flock to nearby Mount Rushmore.
Change things up with these side-trips from Keystone: Elk Mountain Nature Trail (in Wind Cave National Park), Custer (Needles Eye Tunnel, Sylvan Lake, &more) and Mammoth Site of Hot Springs (in Hot Springs). Pack the 9th (Thu) with family-friendly diversions at Rushmore Tramway Adventures. There's still lots to do: pause for some photo ops at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, see the interesting displays at National Presidential Wax Museum, stop by Professor Samuel's Portrait Emporium, and admire all the interesting features of Iron Mountain Road.
