Detroit

The Motor City
Founded in 1701 by a French explorer and adventurer, Detroit exerted a profound impact on the world for most of the 20th century.Bring the kids along to Imagination Station and Matthaei Botanical Gardens. Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums and Thomas Edison Birthplace will appeal to museum buffs. Change things up with these side-trips from Detroit: Oak Harbor (Magee Marsh Wildlife Area & Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge), Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral (in Toledo) and Great Lakes National Cemetery (in Holly). There's lots more to do: identify plant and animal life at Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve, contemplate the long history of Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Old St. Mary's Church.
To see where to stay, maps, reviews, and more tourist information, use the Detroit trip maker site.
Expect a daytime high around 57°F in April, and nighttime lows around 38°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 4th (Thu) early enough to travel back home.
