Durango — 3 nights

Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Get out of town with these interesting Durango side-trips: Mesa Verde National Park (Balcony House & Cliff Palace), The Anasazi Heritage Center (in Dolores) and Four Corners Monument (in Teec Nos Pos). There's still lots to do: whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, trek along Animas River Trail, don't miss a visit to Historic Downtown Durango, and let the river carry you with a rafting and tubing tour.
