Lake George

Queen of the American Lakes

A playground for America’s wealthy families, Lake George was nicknamed "Queen of the American Lakes." While these families often stayed in private country houses, a tourism industry built up around them in the early 20th century facilitated by two YMCAs.
You've now added House of Frankenstein Wax Museum to your itinerary. Change things up with these side-trips from Lake George: Saratoga Springs (Congress Park & Saratoga Spa State Park) and Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home (in Manchester). There's much more to do: explore the activities along Lake George, do a tasting at Adirondack Winery, try your luck at Saratoga Race Course, and take an in-depth tour of The Fort William Henry Museum & Restoration.

To see traveler tips, more things to do, where to stay, and other tourist information, you can read our Lake George trip itinerary builder.
