Birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll

The largest city on the Mississippi River, Memphis bills itself as both the "Birthplace of Rock" and "Home of the Blues." With such a rich musical heritage, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Elvis Presley chose to live in Memphis during his later years.
Step off the beaten path and head to Elvis Presley Birthplace & Museum and Slave Haven / Burkle Estate Museum. Get some cultural insight at Stax Museum of American Soul Music and Rowan Oak. Change things up with these side-trips from Memphis: Oxford (Southside Gallery & Square Books) and Tupelo Automobile Museum (in Tupelo). There's still lots to do: admire the masterpieces at Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art, stroll the grounds of Elmwood Cemetery, steep yourself in history at National Civil Rights Museum - Lorraine Motel, and appreciate the extensive heritage of Beale Street.

To find other places to visit, ratings, traveler tips, and more tourist information, use the Memphis trip planner.

In June, plan for daily highs up to 89°F, and evening lows to 71°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 25th (Thu) so you can travel back home.
