The Motor City

Founded in 1701 by a French explorer and adventurer, Detroit exerted a profound impact on the world for most of the 20th century.
Start off your visit on the 16th (Fri): steep yourself in history at Motown Museum, examine the collection at Greenfield Village, then see the interesting displays at The Henry Ford, and finally admire the masterpieces at Detroit Institute of Arts.

The second largest city in Michigan and a hub of furniture manufacturing, Grand Rapids bears the nickname "Furniture City." However, the destination's original name came from the rapids of the Grand River that once ran through the downtown area.
On the 17th (Sat), take in nature's colorful creations at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park, and then see the interesting displays at Gilmore Car Museum. Here are some ideas for day two: pick up some local products at Bowerman Blueberries Farm Market, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Holland State Park Beach, and then kick back and relax at Oval Beach.
