Traverse City — 1 night

Traverse City might be well known for its huge cherry industry, but its position along Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan endows it with fine scenery and a wealth of outdoor attractions.
Start off your visit on the 16th (Thu): cruise along Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive and then get outside with Outdoor Activities. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 17th (Fri): admire all the interesting features of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

New Orleans to Traverse City is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and bus. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from New Orleans to Traverse City due to the time zone difference. When traveling from New Orleans in June, plan for little chillier days and cooler nights in Traverse City: temperatures range from 76°F by day to 54°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Munising.
