The location of an old Cherokee village, Bryson City embraces a quiet side of the Great Smoky Mountains.
Start off your visit on the 18th (Sun): get engrossed in the history at The Storytelling Center of the Southern Appalachians at Bryson City, then sample the tasty concoctions at Mountain Layers Brewing Company, and then take in the exciting artwork at Elizabeth Ellison Gallery. Most visitors take a trip to Nags Head to enjoy the beach, but this Outer Banks town offers more than just waterside entertainment.
Kick off your visit on the 20th (Tue): find your balance on the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, glide through the air with a parasailing or paragliding tour, then make a trip to Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site & Museum, and finally take in the exciting artwork at Pea Island Art Gallery, Salvo, NC. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: sample the fine beverages at Outer Banks Distilling, then visit a coastal fixture at Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse, then look for gifts at Grave Digger, and finally learn about winemaking at Sanctuary Vineyards.
