Independence is the fifth-largest city in the state of Missouri. You'll explore and learn at Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum and Jesse James Birthplace Museum. Kids will appreciate attractions like Bingham Waggoner Mansion & Estate and Liberty Jail Historic Site. Step out of Independence with an excursion to Battle of Lexington State Historic Site in Lexington--about 46 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: identify plant and animal life at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area, take an in-depth tour of National Frontier Trails Museum, steep yourself in history at Vaile Mansion, and examine the collection at 1879 Chicago & Alton RR Depot.
