Emerald City

Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Kick off your visit on the 27th (Fri): look for gifts at Elliott Bay Book Company, wander the streets of Pike Place Market, then view the masterpieces at Chihuly Garden and Glass, and finally enjoy breathtaking views from Space Needle.

Portland to Seattle is an approximately 2.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. In May in Seattle, expect temperatures between 68°F during the day and 52°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Fri) so you can drive to Astoria.

Spirit of the Columbia

Astoria, named for famed fur trader John Jacob Astor, resides near the mouth of the Columbia River.
Kick off your visit on the 28th (Sat): admire the majestic nature at Ecola State Park, then enjoy the sand and surf at Cannon Beach, and then immerse yourself in nature at Hug Point State Park. Keep things going the next day: immerse yourself in nature at Fort Stevens State Park, then examine the collection at Flavel House Museum, then appreciate the history behind Astoria Column, and finally trek along Astoria Oregon Riverwalk.

When traveling from Seattle in May, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Astoria: temperatures range from 62°F by day to 48°F at night.
